Union members donate food and supplies to homeless veterans
Orange County union members stepped up to help veterans Oct. 2 in support of the Veterans + Labor initiative by donating food, home and baby items, and cash to service families in need.
Members of the Orange County Employees Association collected 630 lbs. in donations, and donated them to the Orange County Food Bank, where your donations will be specifically earmarked for homeless veterans who attend the upcoming Orange County Stand Down event.
Labor will continue the Food Drive for Veterans Nov. 11 at the OC Fair & Event Center. We're trying to raise at least 2,000 lbs. of donations for veterans to say "Thanks a ton!" for your service.
Requested donations include:
Canned and instant soups, pastas, and canned fruits and vegetables
Ethnic foods (Hispanic, Asian, etc.)
Foods that require low heat or no heat for homeless families
Special-needs foods including low-sugar, no-salt, no-cholesterol, gluten-free, etc.
Money/gift cards to purchase food
Baby items including baby food, diapers, clothing, bottles, etc.
Non-toxic household supplies including toothpaste, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, etc.
All items should be brand new and brought to the OC Fair & Event Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11.
